The Frankfurt Airport, is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving as a hub for the major German carrier, Lufthansa. The aiport is located roughly 8 miles from downtown Frankfurt which makes the city an accessible destination for those stuck on long layovers. In addition, the airport offers dry cleaning, clothing alteration, hairdresser, pharmacy and money exchange. There are also over 30 travel agents at the airport. The Frankfurt airport also has a Travel Market on Sundays from 10am to 6pm in Terminal 1, Section C, Level 3 (Airport Gallery).

If you want to ditch your luggage while you explore Frankfurt during your layover, you can drop them off at left luggage facilities. There are two located in Terminal 1 (Hall B, Level 1 Arrivals and Hall B-C, Level 2 Departures) and in Terminal 2 (Hall D, Level 2 Arrivals).

As far as transportation, there are many options available in Frankfurt including rental car, train, bus or shuttle, taxi, and bicycle. The train is at the AIRail Terminal right next to Terminal One, and trains arrive on platforms 4 and 7. Considered to be Germany’s most extraordinary club combined with great dining, The CocoonClub is a great option for those with a night layover in Frankfurt. Its futuristic décor, it is known as being of the hottest clubs in Europe.

Frankfurt Klein Markt Halle
Visit this popular produce market with stalls of delicious food, located on Hasengasse. In addition there are street markets in Bornheim on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a large one held on the Konstablerwache on Thursdays and on the Schiller Strasse on Fridays.

Liebeighaus
Appearing to be more of a castle then a museum, the Liebeighaus hosts an impressive collection of sculptures. It offers an overview of 5000 years of sculpture from ancient Egypt to classicism.

    Go on a walking tour with Frankfurt on Foot. They walk 365 days a year, starting at 10:30 near the Roemer. At 12 euro per person for a 3 hour tour, it is a bargain. Don't have time for that? Arrange a layover tour instead, they will come out to the airport and bring you into town at a very reasonable cost. See their website:

    Also very close to Mainz and accessible by S-Bahn.
    There’s the Gutenberg Museum and gorgeous historical centre.
