Stuck on a Florida layover at Miami’s Dade International Airport? The airport is located roughly eight miles from Miami, which makes the city an accessible destination for those stuck on long layovers. If you’re trying to determine whether you can leave the airport during your Miami layover, click here for useful tips.
If you’re stuck inside the airport on a Miami layover, you can check out the clubs and lounges, listed here. There’s also many restaurants and shops, luggage storage if you’re interested in ditching your baggage, currency exchange and ATMs, a post office, medical securities, and the Miami International Airport Hotel. Click here for a great map of all the shops, restaurants and services.
The airport proudly boasts that their security wait time is among the best in the country. There is also a tourist information desk that can help you with any inquiries on Level 2 Concourse E.
If you’re planning on leaving the airport during your Miami layover, your best bet (not to mention quickest if you have limited time) is to grab a taxi or SuperShuttle outside the baggage claim. There is also a bus service to all areas of Miami located at Terminal E, level 1. In addition, you can also hop on a Metrobus for a quick ride to the Tri-Rail commuter train.
Layover Guide’s Suggestions Of Things To Do On A Miami Layover:
South Beach
Only about 10-15 minutes from the airport, South Beach is the place to witness the Miami “scene.” With an abundance of shopping, clubs, restaurants, and beaches (this is the well-known area of Miami Beach) there’s something for everyone here.
Everglades
Take an airboat ride through the Everglades and see alligators, crocodiles and other exotic wildlife including 14 rare and endangered species. These 1.5 million acres of swamps are one of the most unusual parks in the U.S. Click here for tours and pricing.
Miami Metrozoo
Miami MetroZoo is one of the first completely cageless, free-range zoos in the U.S. and its climate allows it to have displays of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa. Here, you can ride a camel, discover the Amazon, and feed pelicans. Click here for an interactive zoo map.
Monkey Jungle
With 30 species of primates, Monkey Jungle is the place “where the humans are caged and the monkeys run wild.” Watch monkeys swing through trees and interact with each other. Check out the rates and hours of operation here.
