Las Vegas Layover

Stuck on a layover in Las Vegas? The Las Vegas McCarran International Airport is located roughly fifteen minutes from the Vegas strip (depending on traffic which on the weekends can be ample). If you’re trying to determine whether you can leave the airport during your Las Vegas layover, click here for useful tips.
In the airport, there’s the typical shopping and dining, but here you can also find a fair share of slot machines in Terminal 1 and 2. You can also check into participating hotels from the airport, access the Internet through free Wi-Fi, visit the bank, stay at an airline club, and more. In addition, the airport hosts an art gallery including glass and concrete sculptures, an Aviation Museum, a kids play room, shoeshine and designated smoking areas.
You can leave your luggage at keyless lockers and can access a self-serve locker beyond security checkpoints by using a touch screen rental point. Your bags can be left for a maximum of 48 hours and prices range depending on the size of your bag from $8-12 daily.

As for transportation, your best bet is grabbing a taxicab outside baggage. There’s usually a long line of people heading to roughly the same area (the Strip) so you can ask around if anyone wants to share a taxi, which is a common practice in Vegas. There is also car rentals, shuttles and limos, and public transportation.

If you have the time (and you will need a good chunk of it – these tours generally last around 3½ hours), check out a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon. It’s an incredible experience and a view unlike any other! Here’s a list of companies that offer tours.

The Stratosphere
Considered to be the tallest free-standing tower in the U.S., you can see all of Vegas and the surrounding desert area from the top of the Stratosphere. But, this is Vegas of course so there has to be an extra spin to it. Yes, there’s the world’s highest rollercoaster at the top, and there’s also the Big Shot, a reverse bungee that will launch you 160 feet into the sky.
Eating, Shopping and Pooling
If you’re a big foodie, you’ll want to check out the elaborate Bellagio buffet. For pools the Mirage’s pool, surrounded by the feeling of nature in the middle of the desert, is hard to beat. Shopping is hard to miss in Vegas, with name brand stores around every corner. Check out Caesar’s Forum Shops for the ultimate shopping experience.
