Layover In Oslo, Norway

Stuck on a layover at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen (OSL)? As one of the main hubs for Scandinavian Airlines, the airport is located in Ullensaker which is roughly 22 miles from Oslo which makes the city an accessible destination only for those on a long layover. If you’re stuck inside the airport during your layover, there are plenty of services to keep you occupied. The airport has many shopping and dining options (listed here by location), and banking services. The airport also offers wireless internet access (OSL’s IP-zone) from your laptop or smart phone as long as it has a wireless network card – click here for more information on connecting.
The airport has three lounges in the International departures terminal, above the duty free shopping. Scandinavian Airlines has two lounges including the Scandinavian Lounged (for gold card members) and the Scandinavian business lounge (for those with full-priced tickets). If you arrive at night or are looking for a place to rest, the Radisson Blu Airport Hotel is just a three-minute indoor walk from the terminals. If you’re stuck on a long layover and are planning on leaving the airport, taxis are available outside the Arrivals Hall. There is a taxi information desk in the Arrivals Hall that can give information on the fixed taxi rates and book a taxi for you. The Airport Express Train (Flytoget) is a great option for those traveling into Oslo. It runs between Drammen, Asker, Sandvika, Lysaker, Skøyen, Nationaltheatret, Oslo S and Lillestrøm. Travel time from Oslo to the airport on the Flytoget is roughly 25 minutes. In addition to taxis and the train, there are a number of different bus options are also available from the airport, running frequently the city center and other destinations (click here fore more info). By car or bus, travel time from the airport to downtown Oslo is roughly 40 minutes.

Located outside the Oslo city centre in Frogner Park is the Vigeland Sculpture Park. The home of 212 bronze and granite sculptures by the Norwegian sculptor, Gustav Vigeland, the park is impressive. The most famous sculpture located here is The Monolith.
The Museum of Cultural History
Impressive prehistoric and medieval archaeological collections are found here at the Museum of Cultural History including an Egyptian Mummies Collection and the most famous, the Viking Ship Museum. The Oseberg Ship is the main attraction.
