Stuck on a layover at Zagreb International Airport (ZAG) in Croatia? Zagreb is the capital and largest city in Croatia, and the city center is located roughly 10 miles (17 km) from the airport, making it an accessible destination to those stuck on a long layover. If you’re stuck in the airport during your layover, there are plenty of services to keep you entertained. To help you get situated, here’s an interactive map of the airport. There are café and bar options including the Restaurant “Faust Vrančić” situated on the first floor of the passenger’s terminal with sit-down waiter service. Shopping is available with a handful of shops in the Transit Area. A Post Office is located in the Passenger Terminal, open from Monday – Saturday (open 08.00 – 19.00) and closed on Sundays and holidays. A bank, Zagrebačka banka, is located in the Passenger Terminal and can assist with currency exchanges.
In addition, a baggage wrapping service is available in the Passenger Terminal and costs 6 Euros. Due to the security reasons, the Zagreb Airport does not have any lockers or any other left luggage facilities.
The airport hosts three lounges for passengers including the Zrinjevac Lounge (tel: ++385 1 45 62 114) for business class passengers, a VIP Lounge (tel: ++385 1 45 62 133) which allows for special all-inclusive rates for daily rental or special events on request, and the Diners Club International Lounge (tel: ++385 1 62 19 244) is located in the east wing of the Passenger Terminal Building.
If you arrive at night or are looking to catch some rest during your layover, there are many hotels of varying price points close to the airport. The airport gives these hotel suggestions here. When reserving a room, you may want to inquire on whether they offer a free hotel shuttle to pick you up at the airport. The closest hotels to the airport are Hotel Aristos and Hotel Stella.
If you’re looking to leave the airport and explore Zagreb during a long layover, taxis are available outside the terminal, however, the airport recommends pre-booking your taxi with Radio Taksi Zagreb, a taxi company (tel. +385 1 66 00 671, E-mail: info@radio-taksi-zagreb.hr). The scheduled bus shuttle “Pleso prijevoz” travels in both directions between Zagreb’s main bus station and the airport. For more information click here. Average travel time is 25 minutes.
