  1. Hi I live in Tahiti (and write the Lonely Planet guide too) and just wanted to add a few things here. Some tips are good but a few aren't prcatical for a layover – to go to Fataua waterfall for example you need permission from the Papeete mayor's office a day in advance. Probably the best and easiest thing to do during a layover if you're there during the day is to take a bus (le truck) into Papeete and go to the market. Figuring out the sporadic transport for anything else could leave you stranded! And unless you have someone meeting you or dropping you at the airport, no one will give you flower leis or shell necklaces 🙂

What do you do if your flight has an overnight stay and you want to see the Night Life and Sites of Papeete?

  2. Gerry says:

Could I ask a really specific question as I don’t know an obvious place to find the answer:-

My wife and I are disembarking Royal Princess the morning of the 29th november and flying out of Papeete Airport at 22:30 that night.

In a perfect world I’d like to be met, taken to a hotel with a day room, ideally on a great beach with beautiful views and/or ambience where we can enjoy the day and get lunch.

At the end of the day I’d like us to be transported to the airport in time for the LA flight.

    Does anyone package that?

    Many thanks,
