Fiji Layover (Nadi International Airport)

| December 13, 2014

Stuck on a Fiji layover at the Nadi International Airport? The airport is roughly 6 miles from center Nadi which makes it a very accessible destination for those on long layovers. If you can venture out of the airport during your Fiji layover, the main island also presents great options. The airport is located on the western side of Viti Levu and close to the main tourist regions or the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Major airlines including Air Pacific, Air New Zealand, Virgin Pacific, and Air Korea have regular flights. If you’re trying to determine whether you can leave the airport during your Fiji layover, click here for useful tips.

The Nadi International Airport offers a decent amount of things do for those on a layover inside the airport. There is duty free and regular shopping that includes Fijian souvenirs and local art, a couple places to buy food and some additional services such as airport lounges (downstairs), Internet stands, and travel agencies. You can offer to pay a day rate to visit a lounge where you’ll find Internet access, drinks and even a shoulder massage.

If you arrive at night or are looking for a place to rest there are many Nadi hotels available, as well as hotels specifically near the airport.

If you have the time to leave the airport, you can hire a taxi for a tour, where the driver will show you the sights. If you want to grab a taxi to see the sites yourself, you’ll find the prices reasonable. FJ$2.50 will take you anywhere you want to go around town. For longer trips, you can bargain with the driver. You can also demand for the meter to be turned on before leaving. For more information on taxis and costs, click here. You can also take a bus or rent a car.
