If you’re stuck on a layover at the Copenhagen Airport, CPN, (Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup), there’s plenty to do to keep you busy, inside and outside the airport. The airport is a hub for Scandinavian Airlines. Located just five miles south of Copenhagen city center, it is a great place to get out of the airport during long layovers (preferably over 5 hours for International flights, but always plan with extra time for immigration, customs, and security.)

For transportation, you can pick up a taxi outside the arrival areas at Terminal 1 and 3. Another great option is the Metro, which is located at the end of Terminal 3. Things To Do During A Copenhagen Layover:

DFDS Canal Tours
With guides who speak English, Danish and German, you can hop on a canal tour. Most tours are two hours, and it takes you through the new and old Copenhagen. It’s a great way to get to see the city by sea. You can also rent your own boat for events, or do a tour with music – jazz, blues, rag, and stomp.

Rosenborg Castle
Rosenborg Castle is an impressive historic building, and also a museum that contains some of Denmark’s greatest cultural treasures, including the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia. If you’re interested in the history of the Danish kings over 300 years, from Frederik II in the late 16th century to Frederik VII in the 19th century, this can’t be missed. Tivoli Gardens
Not only an impressive garden, the Tivoli Gardens is the world’s oldest amusement park. Best known for its wooden rollercoaster, it also has band performing, restaurants and cafés, flower gardens, and rides including a merry-go-round. On select evenings, fireworks are set off over Tivoli’s lake.

The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue)
A well known landmark in Copenhagen, The Little Mermaid sits on a rock in the Copenhagen harbor in Churchill Park. It’s worth taking a look at, as well as a photo. The Little Mermaid statue is in honor of the fairy tale by Danish author and poet Hans Christian Andersen, that was based on the Disney movie.

Shopping in Norrebro
A couple hundred years ago it used to be farmlands but now Norrebro is a today it is a popular are for shopping in the trendy stores with up and coming designers. The trains are on time, clean and efficient. The Airport Express links HKIA directly to Hong Kong’s central business district and from there, buses connect the airport with most of the city. Victoria’s Peak
Take the Airport Express to HK station and take the mini bus (from the bus terminus below IFC/HK station), and then take the Peak Tram to The Peak. This high point gives you a great lookout onto Hong Kong and the harbor. It’s the perfect place to snap some great shots and get a good look at the city.

Star Ferry
From Central, take the ferry to TST, Kowloon and check out another great view of Hong Kong. You can walk along Nathan Road for shopping and food.

Business District and Mid-Levels Escalator
To central business district of Hong Kong has the fancy buildings and shopping malls, and gives you a feeling for the city. Take the Hong Kong stop of the Airport Express. You’ll be at a large mall and office building, called ‘IFC’. You can take the ‘Mid-Levels Escalator’ which is the longest covered outdoor escalator in the world. It starts from the western end of IFC and it is an outdoor escalator that will take you through the middle of the city, restaurant/bar area and then up towards the more residential areas.

Tian Tan – The Big Buddha
Although on the same island as the airport, unless you take a taxi which can be pricey, you need to take public transportation there, which can take some time and is only recommended for those on very long layovers. You can reach the Buddha by traveling to Tung Chung station via the MTR. You can find an MTR map here. Visitors can then take the following bus routes: Mui Wo to Ngong Ping (NLB No. 2) and Tung Chung to Ngong Ping (NLB No. 23)

It’s not just us non-celebrities who are star struck when we spot a celebrity at the airport.

Denise Richards got excited when she ran into John Stamos while waiting for her flight.

She then posted this Twitpic of John Stamos, donning a black cap in the Delta Terminal, staring off in the distance.

Denise was apparently on her way to the Big Apple since later that day she wrote, “New York is cold! I have a beautiful view of the city. Early call tomorrow.”

Looks like the Philly airport will be getting a major facelift, to the tune of 5.2 billion dollars.

The Philadelphia International Airport, one of the busiest in the country, will be adding on to its existing structures in order to help alleviate the traffic, congestion and delays.

According to the AP:

The long-discussed and controversial project is expected to take 12 to 15 years and be financed through bonds, passenger-facility charges and FAA grants. One runway will be extended 2,000 feet and another by 1,500 feet; a fifth, 9,100-foot runway will be built along the Delaware River, which separates Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Construction is scheduled to start in 2013, after land acquisition is completed, permits and approvals are received and engineering and design are done. The project is scheduled for completion in 2025.

Overnight layovers are not a whole lot of fun, unless you can land yourself at a pretty sweet airport hotel.

Hotelclub put together a great list of the top 9 airport hotels in the world. These overnight plush pads can turn any dreaded layover into a mini vacation.

Gyeongbokgung Palace
The Gyeongbokgung Palace houses the National Museum of Korea and the National Folk Museum. The Palace, built by the Chosun dynasty six centuries, is one of the most famous and oldest Seoul attractions. You can also check out Dongshipjagak, the ancient watch tower.

Myeongdong
If you’re looking to shop, the Myeongdong is a big street flea market as well as a historic walking area. If you’re looking for more serious shopping, check out Namdaemun Market. As one of Korea’s largest wholesale markets, it covers over 10 acres and is the one of the best spots to get some nice souvenirs and clothing, as well as some knock offs. It is closed on Sundays.

N Seoul Tower
If you’re looking for a good aerial view of the city, check out N Seoul Tower. With an observation deck 370 meters tall you can get a great birds eye view of the city (pollution and weather depending).

Deoksugung Palace
The Deoksu-gung Palace is one of Seoul’s smallest of Seoul’s palaces, built during the mid-fifteenth century. Known for its unique stone wall road and the wide bridge of Geumcheon. Here you can also find the Palace Treasure exhibition, and part of the National Modern Arts Center.
