On a recent stopover in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on the way to the Galapagos Islands, we had a chance to check out the Malecon 2000, a boardwalk that spans the Guayas River. Here you can take a stroll along the river, and stop at the many points of interest including restaurants, bars, theaters, fountains, and gardens.

We must say, we were impressed and snapped a few photos of our favorite views. It proved to be a great stop for an overnight layover in Guayaquil.

The airport is a hub for Scandinavian Airlines. Located just five miles south of Copenhagen city center, it is a great place to get out of the airport during long layovers (preferably over 5 hours for International flights, but always plan with extra time for immigration, customs, and security.)

If you’re stuck in the airport during your Copenhagen Layover, looking to pass some time, you can learn about wireless access to get online at the airport, here. To find airport more information and location on the airport hotel, lounges, banks, children locations, travel agencies and ticket offices, click here.

If you are looking to drop off luggage, and explore the city, there are lockers for a maximum of 72 hours in car park 4 and a place called Left Luggage (in the Arcade between Terminals 2 and 3) that you can leave your luggage for up to four weeks. Click here for Left Luggage information.

For transportation, you can pick up a taxi outside the arrival areas at Terminal 1 and 3. Another great option is the Metro, which is located at the end of Terminal 3. The travel time from Nørreport Station in central Copenhagen to the airport is 15 minutes. For a map of the metro and more information on traveling from the airport, click here.

Things To Do During A Copenhagen Layover:

DFDS Canal Tours
With guides who speak English, Danish and German, you can hop on a canal tour. Most tours are two hours, and it takes you through the new and old Copenhagen. It’s a great way to get to see the city by sea. You can also rent your own boat for events, or do a tour with music – jazz, blues, rag, and stomp.

Rosenborg Castle
Rosenborg Castle is an impressive historic building, and also a museum that contains some of Denmark’s greatest cultural treasures, including the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia. If you’re interested in the history of the Danish kings over 300 years, from Frederik II in the late 16th century to Frederik VII in the 19th century, this can’t be missed. Check here for times and dates that the museum is open.

Tivoli Gardens
Not only an impressive garden, the Tivoli Gardens is the world’s oldest amusement park. Best known for its wooden rollercoaster, it also has band performing, restaurants and cafés, flower gardens, and rides including a merry-go-round. On select evenings, fireworks are set off over Tivoli’s lake.

The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue)
A well known landmark in Copenhagen, The Little Mermaid sits on a rock in the Copenhagen harbor in Churchill Park. It’s worth taking a look at, as well as a photo. The Little Mermaid statue is in honor of the fairy tale by Danish author and poet Hans Christian Andersen, that was based on the Disney movie.

Shopping in Norrebro
A couple hundred years ago it used to be farmlands but now Norrebro is a today it is a popular are for shopping in the trendy stores with up and coming designers. There are many cafes, restaurants and it’s a great place for people watching. There are also many flea markets during the warmer months. You can check out the different flea markets here.

You can find a good city map of Copenhagen here.

Click here to find a late deal to a destination where the sun shines on a sandy beach. Life is too short to spend every holiday at the same place.

The Silver Bank, which is approximately 100km north of the Dominican Republic, is considered a top breeding zone for the humpback whales.

Most Dominican Republic boat operations to the Silver Bank are booked for 7 days, although some 10-day tours are available. From the boat you can watch the whales, and if the crew decides that it’s safe to get in the water, you can watch the gentle giants in their own environment.

Additional activities in the Dominican Republic include scuba diving (although not with the whales), deep-sea fishing, kiteboarding and windsurfing, horse back riding, jet skiing, golf and more.

As far as experiences go, what could get any better than this?

LayoverGuide.com’s Suggestions For Things To Do On A Beirut Layover:

Jeita Grotto
One of the top tourist attractions in Beirut, you can explore these spectacular underground caves by boat. There’s also a cable car that will take you to an upper grotto.

Churches of Harissa
Looking for a gorgeous view, take the cable car up the side of the mountain to the Churches of Harissa. From here you’ll have an amazing view of Lebanon and on clear days you can see all the way to Cyprus.

Temples of Baalbek
Only for those on long layovers, you can travel roughly 55 miles from Beirut to Baalbek where you’ll find the Temples of Baalbek, a complex of ruins on the top of a hill in the Bekkaa valley.

Al-Omari Mosque
Considered the city’s Grand Mosque, Al-Omari Mosque is one of the oldest and biggest mosques in the city. It was transformed from a church in 1291.

While some of their advice may seem, well, obvious (like don’t grow out a thin mustache or don a beret) some others were well worth pointing out.

One of the best pieces of information was:

DON’T forget to purchase an RER ticket for the train to the airport. Many tourists are tripped up on this since they believe that the initial entry ticket to the Metro will get them out to Charles de Gaulle airport. Alas, no. There are RER police that come aboard to check ticket, making sure you have a full fare ticket for the airport. If you’re caught lacking, then the fine is at least 20 Euros—it’d be a shame to lose your airport coffee and baguette money before even reaching CDG.

We also agree strongly with their tip to eating out in Paris:

DON’T order a la carte at dinner. Going out to a mid-price or fancy restaurant is a dream, when you’re in France and looking for the best wine and unpronounceable cheeses. Instead of racking up an astronomical bill by picking and choosing, better to go with a prix fixe menu, a more economical way to enjoy a variety of courses. Most restaurants have prix fixe menus that change daily, but beware of any outright labeled as “tourist menus,” since those will often skimp on the portions or offer up blander choices.

The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is a busy airport, as both Delta and Eastern Air Lines use this airport as their chief hub. If you’re stuck in Atlanta for either a short or lengthy stay, there’s plenty to do.

The airport proudly offers wireless Internet service from anywhere inside the airport, including “hard to reach” places including under the concourses. To keep kids entertained, the airport has a website specifically designed for them.In addition, in the transportation mall between Concourse A and the T-Gates, you can find 20 stone sculptures from Zimbabwe. There are also art displays made by Atlanta’s young artists through the airport. You can also find shopping, and plenty of restaurants and bars.

You’ll need a minimum of three hours nationally to leave the airport (leave for an hour back in the airport to clear security), and more for International flights (a minimum of 5 hours) to make sure you leave enough time for Immigration and security. The destinations in Atlanta are a bit of a ways away from the airport (downtown is 20 minutes each way), so make sure you pad more than enough time to make your connecting flight.

If you need a place to store your luggage, check out Wrap-A-Bag by the baggage claim in the North and South Terminal areas. Check the site for times and prices.

Transportation to and from the airport comprises of a cab, rental car, or public transportation (MARTA). The MARTA is attached to the airport, off the baggage claim, and for $1.75 you can travel to downtown. For an airport map of MARTA and more info, click here.

They have sections on cold water creatures, a huge display which houses whale sharks, tropical reef life and much more.

Botanical Gardens
The Atlanta Botanical Gardens feature many unusual varieties of plant life and gardens including a collection of Venus Fly Traps. The Fuqua Orchid Center contains a rare collection of high-elevation orchids and the Chihuly in the garden displays 50 original glass sculptures.

Here, you can visit the home where the leader of the Civil Rights Movement was born, tour the church where he preached, and see his memorial site.

World Of Coca-Cola
At double the size of the original World of Coca-Cola, this new facility offers a 4-D theater (3-D but with moving seats), the largest collection of coke memorabilia, a fully-functioning bottling line, a tasting experience of over 60 samples, and a pop culture gallery.

Atlanta Segway Tour
This guided tour gives you a history of Atlanta, by zipping you around in a segway. It’s a great way to see the city, get some great photos, learn the history and have some fun.

Here’s some of our favorite things, especially for someone new to the city. Remember, especially with International flights, to leave plenty of time to get back to the airport and catch your next flight.

You can always take a taxi to get around NY, however, it can cost a lot by the end of the day and doesn’t always save you time. (JFK offers a rate of $45 by taxi into the city, not including bridge tolls and tip). The subway is a great, affordable way to see the sights, and you can find a map of all the stops here.

Here’s some more information on transportation options from JFK and La Guardia.

If you plan on seeing lots of New York sights, we suggest investing in the New York Pass. The New York Pass gives you admission to 40 of New York City’s top attractions, starting at $65 per day. If you plan on visiting a bunch of attractions and museums, it will save you a good deal of money.

Layoverguide’s Suggestions Of Things To Do On A New York Layover:

Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island

Take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island, to visit where roughly 12 million immigrants entered the United States. The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is a great place to learn about the history of Ellis Island. There are security checks, so make sure you don’t have any sharp objects. Don’t miss the audio tour at Ellis Island – it’s full of interesting history. You can check out ferry times and locations here.

Ground Zero Museum Workshop
It’s hard not to visit New York without remembering the tragic attack on September 11, 2001. Head through the Financial District to Ground Zero to visit the location where the twin towers stood. It may surprise you how big the space was — about 12 million square feet. Check out the Ground Zero Museum Workshop.

Broadway Show
Nothing says New York like Broadway. Book ahead online to save time and money at Playbill, Theatermania, and Broadwaybox.

Scott’s Pizza Tours
New York is known for their pizza, and for those who love a slice, there’s no better way to spend your day then trying the best pizza in the city. This tour includes the history of New York pizza, as well as visits to the city’s four top pizzerias. All tours start in Manhattan and visit pizzerias in the outer boroughs, so double check your timing back to the airport for your next flight.

Central Park
Central Park is a great way to enjoy New York’s biggest park. You can enter the park at 59th and check out all the artists. Inside the park you can ride the carousel, skate at Wollman rink, visit the zoo, ride in a horse-drawn carriage, see Strawberry Fields and you can’t miss the ducks at the pond. You can also stop for a bite at the boathouse.

Rockefeller Center & Home Of The Rock Observation Deck
Rockefeller Center is where you’ll find the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, as well as shopping, restaurants, the NBC Studio Tour and the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center. If you need a quick view of New York, the observation deck is much less crowded than the Empire State Building, yet has great views. It is a 3-tiered observation deck on the 67th, 69th, and 70th floors and you can enter on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue.

Empire State Building

If you have the time to battle the tourists, don’t miss heading to the top of the Empire State Building. It’s quite a sight, from 102 stories high. For those in a rush, a $35 “Express Ticket” gets you on the deck within 20 minutes.
